Dr. Amanda Yoder
Hello! I'm Amanda, a post-doctoral therapist at Hays Street Counseling in Boise, Idaho. I help individuals and couples heal from the past, and find peace in the present. I am happy to be in Boise to invest in our community's healing! I grew up here and care deeply for the Treasure Valley.
I help my clients grow in self-compassion, connection, and self-worth through short-term, solution-focused therapy, or more in-depth psychodynamic therapy. Some people choose to continue on the growth journey after resolving their initial goals. When I’m not in the office, I am probably painting, reading a memoir, or finding adventure somewhere.
In-person and tele-health therapy sessions are available.
Working With Me
How we do the work
Loss, traumas, or attachment injuries can disrupt the freedom we once felt in our lives. As humans, we start to notice something is "off" when the body continues to send information to us: feelings that do not seem to leave or lift, difficulty connecting with others or feeling at peace in relationships, or negative feelings about the self (shame, low self worth). These are just a few ways we can begin to note that something needs worked through. Symptoms are not "bad" - but they are distressing! There is no shame in taking brave steps to acknowledge the need for healing. In fact, just the opposite. People I work with are especially strong, because they have decided they want things to change, and they are ready to try. The healing happens when triggers to painful feelings and thoughts start to make sense, usually connected to past experience, and are no longer mysterious or surprising. While there is no guaranteed outcome in therapy (everyone is uniquely different), one can generally expect the fog of sadness, disconnection, anxiety, or frustration to lift, usually replaced by new hope, clarity and peace.
I see individuals and couples both in person or via zoom. I'm open about what to expect, and I believe in clinical transparency. Integrating values, strengths and intersectional identities of each of my clients is my top priority, and I do my best to minimize the power differences in the therapist-client relationship.
